Task 1: how does Emmet come across? How effective would this trailer be in promoting the film?
Emmet comes across as a very ordinary guy who follows all the rules and never steps out of line or thinks of ideas for himself which is why its so surprising when he is told he is the prophecy. He is very chilled out and never seems worried about anything. He is not very smart though. Emmet is very clueless and simple, he is not special and he admits he isn't special. He tries to fit in because he does not want to fit in, he just wants to be liked and be the same as everyone else. He does not come across as your average hero, in fact he is far from being a hero because he lacks bravery, strength, brains, power, confidence, driven, fearlessness, and being physically able. He doesn't think of himself as heroic because he doesn't think he has the qualities- he needs to be told what to do as he has no inspiration or leadership qualities. He is thrust into the role of hero, the situation thrusts him into this role as well as wild style helping him believe he is a hero.
The trailer is effective as it summaries how Emmet is an unlikely hero because of how timid and simple he truly is. It shows how he is cheerful and good-humoured but not physically impressive as he can only do 1 star jump. It promotes the comedy aspects of the movie because he falls short of being a hero. Emmet accepts a 37 dollar coffee because he is peaceful and does not want to pick a fight. Batman wouldn't accept that outrageous price because he is the opposite of Emmet, batman doesn't desperately want to fit in but Emmet does. It is appealing to the audience because the humour offers escapism and allows us to laugh about how Emmet is such an unlikely hero.
